Handhelds to interface with Oracle databases
Oracle and Symbian are to join forces to provide the latter's handheld computer customers with remote access to databases.
Symbian, this year's joint venture between Psion, Ericsson, Motorola and Nokia will integrate the new Oracle Lite database with its EPOC operating system. This will allow users to access databases from anywhere in the world via their mobile phones or personal digital assistants.
For Oracle it marks the next step in its plan to penetrate the ever-growing wireless market. According to Nick Gregory, marketing manager for Oracle UK it is an exciting opportunity. "Mobile phones with Web browsers are becoming a reality and with a massive trend towards mobile work, there is a huge market we are hoping to explore."
