Huawei's flagship Android handset, the Ascend P2, will go on sale from UK retailers next month bringing with it an upgraded 4G experience (network willing) and the Android Jelly Bean operating system.

The Chinese handset maker said the range-topping smartphone will go on sale from various UK retailers starting in June, but did not give any indication of pricing.

"The Ascend P2 offers exceptional design, power and functionality at the higher end of the market. With it, UK customers can enjoy the maximum network speeds available from their network operators, right now and in the future," Mark Mitchinson, vice president of Huawei Device UK and Ireland, said in a statement on Friday.

Headline specs of the device include a 4.7-inch (1280 x 720 pixels) display, quad-core 1.5GHz processor and 1GB of RAM.

On the rear of the device there's a 13-megapixel camera with HDR and on the front there is a 1.3-megapixel affair for video calls and stills photos. There's also a dedicated camera shutter button on the side of the chassis.

Like Samsung and other Android manufacturers, Huawei attempts to differentiate its devices with the use of custom software and its Emotion UI, sat atop Android 4.1.

On the Ascend P2 these custom features also include the way in which screen transitions are handled (it rolls, rather than scrolls) as well as shortcuts to frequently used tools.

Three is the only major UK network to have confirmed that it will be offering the device when it is released next month.

  • For anyone that has never used an Huawei device.

The software on every Huawei device I have used has been useless and never worked. They are cheap rubbish devices that never do what they are meant to do. Also they are spies for the Chinese government. I know this sounds far fetched please do your own research. If you have ever bought a tin opener from China, expect the same quality.

So your US Congress keeps insisting, yet they have never offered any evidence to back up that claim.

Frankly, this just sounds like xenophobic, nationalistic US interests terrified of the up-and-coming Asian dragon.
