IBM plans analytics 'bootcamps' worldwide

IBM launched a broad initiative on Thursday to expand so-called 'big data' and analytics skills in academia by running 'bootcamps'.

The company's initiative will involve 1,200 training courses in more than 150 cities around the world. The effort will focus on IBM's software and some of the technology in the Watson supercomputer, with the company looking to broaden the applications for the Watson technology.

The skills initiative is free and topics covered will include big data, analytics, data management and open-source technologies such as Hadoop and Eclipse.
