The Verge's Tom Warren grabbed a quick screen grab from the Microsoft news site on December 12 that indicates Build 2014 will be April 2-4 in San Francisco at the Moscone Center. Build 2013 was held in June this year, in the same city, same venue. According to The Verge, registration for next year's Build will begin January 14, 2014.

The information about the next Build is no longer on the Microsoft news site. I reached out to Microsoft to request confirmation. No word back so far.

April 2014 would be a good time for Microsoft execs to share more on a few key products expected in the first half of 2014. These include Windows Phone 8.1 "Blue," Windows 8.1 Update 1 and the expected Microsoft mini-Surface.

Microsoft's first Build conference -- its replacement for its Professional Developers Conference and Mix shows -- in Anaheim in 2011. The second Build was in Seattle in 2012, and keynoted by CEO Steve Ballmer.

Update (December 13): Microsoft is now confirming officially that Build 2014 will be held April 2-4 in San Francisco.

  • Too frequent, not enough new stuff

I'm sorry, but having this conference every 10 months, when all we're getting is minor updates to operating systems, seems a bit much. I doubt my group sends anybody back to //build/ there is significant change in the operating systems.

    • NO, THATS WHY ITS A DEVELOPER CONFRENCE, NOT JUST A SHOWCASE OF NEXT OS

WRONG, SINCE YOU DONT KNOW SHIT ABOUT BUILD IS? ITS MORE THAN JUST INOR UPDATES, //BUILD/ IS ALWAYS FOR BIG UPDATES NOT JUST IN OS. FOOL. ITS MORE AROUND DEVELOPERS IN DIFFERENT EXPRINCES AROUND MICROSOFT ECOSYSTEM AND SERVICES AND DEVELOPMENT TOOLS.

  • Looking forward to this one particularly ..

Convergence of one OS on multiple screen sizes, not just kernel but most of the API. Microsoft has certainly got a lead here compared to Google or Apple

If there is significant re-use in application development across Phone, Tablet, PC and Xbox then Microsoft is set to maintain its lead for the next decade

Looks like the way hardware performance is improving on ARM, the decision to scale desktop OS to tablets seems to be more beneficial than scaling up Phone OS on tablet like what Apple and Google has done.

    • Goofy comment.

Needed to say that -- Microsoft is in the Middle of a CEO switch and yet the announcements go on. This may be because ValueAct is running the show with some great ideas and that is what we will hear about. Take in regards that all Ballmer's decisions have been reversed.

      • ValueAct has not had 1 good idea

What ValueAct has proposed so far are really bad ideas. Unless you're one of those ABM folks who want to see Microsoft go away.

They should not have been given a seat at the table.

  • Well it has been long Long wait for WP8.1

So it will be interesting, and hopefully worth the very long wait. [ I presume they will finish and release WP81. by this date.] Something really good and compelling I hope, with a range of compelling Microsoft new Lumia Phones (giveaway).

But what else are they going to talk about - Surely Surface Mini will be a Product Launch, than a Developer conference.

They need to get W8.2 Released by Mid Summer. I noted that Nokia Lumia was Released too late here in Europe and the UK. Those stupid Nokia folks messed up by going with an Exclusive and only selling the brilliant Nokia Lumia at 'John Lewsi' stors. There are about 20 at most of those stores. I got my Lumia yesterday, and the John Lewis experience, just with Surface Last year was very poorly presented. Little better than the Surface devices sitting next to it, on a sad little table amongst the bright and buzzing Android and iPad Tablets sales promotions and staff. So I would guess they sell about two per day at most per store, about 50 at most per day in UK, so with 20 more selling days this year, they are going to sell a gross of 1000 Lumia 2520s in this market year. - Just Hopeless. Not just the loss of sales, but the crass loss in timescale. The product will be dead old hat in 4 months time, if and when it goes on wider sale.

Our Guardian Tech reporters and other will then further claim that the weak sales of Windows Tablets are a sign of Microsoft demise. If Microsoft wants to get back into the game, it needs to start to promote its products and partners more aggressively on the worldwide markets.

    • I SAY ITS GOING TO BE A BIGGER AND BETTER YEAR FOR MICROSOFT!!!!

ITS WORTH THE WAIT FOR WP8.1 BECAUSE IT WILL HAVE A LOT AND I MEAN ALOT OF FEATURES THAT WE DONT KNOW AND ITS CGOING TO BE COMPELLING AND AMAZING, MICROSOFT IS ALERADY BACK IN THE TABLET GAME SINCE 2012, SO THEY ARE TRYING AGRESSIVELY ON TABLETS, YES NOKIA FAULT ON ONE EXCLUSIVE SHOP BECAUSE OF LIMITED STOCKS FOR OTHER SHOPS. SURFACE MINI IS COMMING. 2014 IS GOING TO BE A GREAT YEAR FOR MICROSOFT, WITH 8.2 IS COMING THIS FALL NOT SUMMER, W8.1 UPDATE 1 IS COMING SPRING NOT SUMMER AND WP8.1 IS SPRING/SUMMER. AND XBOX ONE APP DEVELOPMENT IS COMING AND INDIE GAMES AND MICROSOFT NEW SMART DEVICES IS GOING TO SHOWN OFF WATCHES, GLASSES
