NEC announced 20,000 job cuts

NEC announced on Friday that it will cut 20,000 jobs amongst the largest lost by companies blaming the economic slowdown and poor exchange rates for job losses.

Half of the jobs losses will be in Japan and the other half around the world at the company’s various subsidiaries.

The biggest number of IT jobs lost in the UK so far has been 10,000 announced by BT although that headline figure was really 6,000 as 4,000 of the job losses had already been announced.

Another major UK loss was the 3,378 job losses announced by the EDS outsourcing subsidiary of HP.
