News Burst: AMD targets notebook PCs

Having succeeded in cranking up yields of its K6 and K6-2 processor lines, AMD is planning to target the notebook PC market.

The x86 processor maker has been concentrating on consumer PCs in the last year but now aims to step up plans to attract business buyers by targeting mobile PC makers with its 233MHz and 266MHz K6 chips. Fellow chip maker Cyrix also sees an increasingly important role for itself in the segment.
