After accusing HTC of infringing on 20 of its iPhone patents in March, Apple has expanded its suit.

After accusing HTC of infringing on 20 of its iPhone patents in March, Apple has expanded its suit.

This week Apple tacked on two more patents that it claims the Taiwanese handset manufacturer is in violation of using, according to a legal filing in U.S. District Court in Delaware.

The newly added patents both concern the same type of technology, which Apple lists as a "system for real-time adaptation to changes in display configuration."

@Jimster480 Because Android was made from scratch ?
Look, windows screen resolution change feature happy
So they want to make sure they make money one way or another. Hope their lawsuits are duds from here on.

@Uralbas i heard also they were attempting to file against the slide to lock feature... all this is just garbage... My sincerest hopes that apple crumbles from its own ignorance and arrogance .. maybe then will it get back to its roots of "true innovation"

The key difference being that Apple's sends a signal from hardware to flag the change.

Sort of like, oh, the VESA standard for switching display modes to those supported by the monitor from before the Apple patent:

FFS, the US patent office is just a joke, and Apple should be ashamed.

@Linux Geek
Wow, how are your insiders into these corporations doing? I wonder they are still on your payroll amid this financial crisis, you must have billions of $ to pay these guys.

wasn't it the other way around?

@Linux Geek I thought it was HTC that licensed the MS suite of patents to protect itself from further infringement claims by Apple.

Not satisfied with

the evolutionary advances in iOS4, Apple takes the next evolutionary step as a mega-corporation and resorts to litigation. Sad they have a legal system far separated from the original spirit of IP law to support them...

I say the word on the street is that LinuxGeek is a drive-by troll... I'm just sayin... You post crap like this and cannot or will not support it. I'd ask you to prove me wrong but we all know that will never happen.

But back to the topic at hand - enough is enough with all the freaking lawsuits...

take it easy. His drivel shows the jealousy about the success of these two corporations.

Motorola and other other phone manufacturers with deep patent portfolios need not fear Apple; there's a bunch of Motorola patents I bet Apple is infringing on. If impact on HTC's business will only bolster other Android offerings

Motorola will have to get in line

Apple is infringing on Nokia patents and even Apple admits to it because their "defense" isn't that they aren't infringing. They just don't feel like paying Nokia for the right to use the patented technologies that Nokia is now suing them for. Hopefully, Nokia and Motorola will get their fair share of Apple's billions and hopefully, the DoJ and the EC sit up and finally take notice of Apple's anti-competitive antics.

@NonZealot
you're just plain lying in your laughable hate crusade against all things apple. apple refuses to pay nokia MORE than nokia wants from other handset makers. these nokia patents are licensed under a standard of non-discrimination to the whole industry, yet in the case of apple they want three times what they want from other companies and they want access to apple patents as well (something they don't want from other companies). yes, apple is refusing to pay more than others and give away their patents. and rightfully so.

If Apple doesn't like the terms...
NonZealot 24th Jun 2010
If Apple doesn't like the terms, they shouldn't use the product. Apple went ahead and used Nokia's patents before they had agreed on payment terms and now that they can't agree, Apple won't stop using them. According to your rules, HTC should be allowed to use all of Apple's patented technologies and when taken to court, simply say that Apple and HTC hadn't agreed on a price yet but that it should be okay for HTC to use it in the meantime. You would think that was evil of HTC.

Cue the double standards...

@NonZealot Intel was anti-competitive over the last years and they just had to pay a couple billion for their actions. Apple should have to pay for theirs, but maybe more than a couple billion, since the company has 40B cash (supposedly).

Apple Patent Fraud
guihombre 24th Jun 2010
Laptops have detected the plugging in of external connectors and then permitted external display modes for years.
Apple did not invent that.

Again, we have another case of the US patent system issuing patents to NON INVENTORS for other peoples inventions.

The patent office needs to be made liable for theft of other people ideas. Which is what they do when they grant one company exclusive rights to use an idea invented by another.

Yet another example
mhenriday 24th Jun 2010
of a patent system gone mad, and which hinders rather than promotes innovation. But lawyers' livelihoods are ensured....

@mhenriday Yeah it's only a problem with Apple wants to defend themselves against theft.

Just like apple
Jimster480 24th Jun 2010
They make 3rd rate products, control them and the people who use them and then cry when someone else makes something better that they cannot control. So instead they start suing for things they shouldn't even be able to sue for. I mean cmon, Apple can't even make its own OS from scratch, their OS is just based off of BSD. And they have patents that aren't even legit. For changing display resolution? How the FK can you patent that?

Do it right
frabjous 24th Jun 2010
@Jimster480 Maybe you should investigate just a little before making such silly claims--try reading the patent application to understand what is really under protection.
