Tablet deals continue to pop up as the holiday shopping season drags on. Just this week, we've seen a ridiculous special at Microsoft stores (a $99 Dell Venue 8 Pro tablet for the first 20 buyers at each retail location on Monday morning) and a sale from Amazon on its 7-inch Kindle Fire HDX for one day (also Monday). Now Office Depot has responded with a great deal of its own, though buyers will luckily have more time to take advantage of it.

The office superstore is dropping the price on the latest version of the Google Nexus 7 Android tablet through December 21, both online and through its brick-and-mortar locations. It's shaving $50 off the regular price of the 16GB version, reducing it to $179.99, and $40 from the 32GB model's price, now $229.99. That's an instant savings, not a mail-in rebate that makes you wait several weeks to get your money back.

If there's one very minor drawback, it's that the 16GB Nexus 7 is no longer available to be delivered straight to your home. You can order it online, but need to go to the store to pick it up. As of this writing, the 32GB configuration can still be shipped free to you. Of course, as this special continues, you can expect that to end, and possibly for Office Depot to run out of stock.

For its part, Google is offering a $35 Google Play credit if you purchase a Nexus 7 and its Chromecast streaming device together from its online store, but that's not quite the deal Office Depot is offering. Is the price right for you to buy a Nexus 7 now? Let us know in the Talkback section below.

  • Umm

Has this tablet actually been fixed? If not, I'll pass thanks!

      • To the people who wants to flag me,

here are my concerns and I know there are potential roundabouts or fixes, but I had this for awhile before I returned it because of the following:
        1. Random reboots (I can live with that)
        2. Screen Flickering (My major concern)
        3. Touch responses take awhile (My next concern).
I feel the previous iteration of this was good.

  • Avoid this Bogus offer!

I tried to buy one this morning, Sat Dec 14, and they claim to be all sold out in spite of not carrying this as a stock item. It is a bogus come on. AVOID and don't waste your time.
