XO 3.0

One Laptop per Child (OLPC) outlined its future roadmap, including plans for the XO 3.0, a device "well below $100" that utilizes a design that mimics a piece of paper. The aim of the XO 3.0 is to leapfrog previous generations. Read more about the XO 3.0.

ports are more useful than sleek design

I completely agree.

I see no indication that they would sustain dust and drops. Likewise, I fail to see how this can be built for less than $100, when the XO 2.0 still has yet to materialize in anything except a few doctored Photoshop pics.

I'll consider this forever-vapourware, along with the XO 2.0, and the next Duke Nukem game.

although it's still the software that makes it amazing.

While a great idea, there is no way this will be under $100. Under $1000 maybe.

Apps & Ports?

I'll check on the OLPC site but it didn't appear
to have any ports. While the reader is fine I wanted to see more besides checkers that would show it's use for education. The reader function will be essential.
It probably has a wireless modem too so that may substitute for ports. Using a central signal source can allow the exchange of information.
I was wondering about the ability to print but I can see much functionality going paperless and that reduces logistics requirements.
I hope this becomes successful and not for others to sponge off but for the intended purpose.
