  Motorola Atrix is the exact kind of device that will revolutionize the computing industry, much like the PC did in the 1980's, and the transistor in the 1970's. From the pics, the dock seems to be done nearly right - using standardized ports instead of specialized connections like most laptop docking stations do. Now it just needs to be done by all other Android manufacturers - both phone and tablet.

  I'm sure there is some sort of point to this, but it escapes me at presently.
  
  Motorola need to do dome navel gazing, and realise why the Xoom is over-priced and doomed to be killed off and sold through in the bargain bin, and the Atrix is an unremarkable Android device with a party trick no-one really needs.

    Have you used the Atrix? I had a Droid 2 Global and I can tell you the Atrix is so much faster and smoother. It has of course the front facing camera and finger print reader, all for the same price as most high end phones. You personally may not be amazed by it, but to be fair to Motorola it is definitely the best high end phone on the market for the same price. Especially with a dual core processer and 4G capabilities (although ATT doesn't really have 4g anywhere I have been).

      Atrix is nothing you won't be getting very soon from HTC and Samsung, except it has a very expensive party trick with the dock. For the money, you might as well use the $400 the dock costs towards a, if you must buy a Motorola, tablet like a WiFi Xoom, or WiFi Samsung Galaxy Tab 2.

  I really like the IDEA of the Atrix. And I think that IDEA could very well revolutionize the platform. But I just don't see how this particular implementation can have enough horsepower or storage (or battery power, for that matter) for adequate and efficient performance.
  
  I'm also not keen on how the Atrix phone sticks out of the dock in such a vulnerable position, prime to get snapped right off with any rough handling at all.
  
  But I have high hopes for this genre of devices in the future. A really nice idea, that just needs to mature (and grow technically in terms of power and battery).

    I actually have the Atrix, got it on pre-order and have been using it for the past two weeks. I can say that the battery life is really excellent considering the speed of the device and what it can handle. I can get about 8-9 hours of heavy usage. If I use it off and on, I seem to be able to get about 2 days. Now I did put "Green Power free" on right after I got the phone, so that may be helping me squeeze an extra few hours from it.
    
    Sound is great, speed is great... and being able to watch tv ON my tv (or monitor or whatever) using HDMI is... great! :D

  Personally I would stay away from the Atrix till Motorola figures out the sound quality issue. I just returned mine because people were complaining that they could not hear me and the voice recognition was horrible. The HTC Inspire is fairing much better.

  I have had one with the laptop dock for about 3 weeks now. I will say that the laptop dock is pretty cool - However, as IT guy on the road, the tethering sucks. The speed of the 3g/h+ is terrible! I am making a decision to move back to ios4... I can really see a difference in speed - Maybe just not there yet since 4g has been an idea for 2012 in my area.

  Oh and I will say the Laptop dock is really pointless until they work out the kinks of the track pad - No multitouch scroll, no scroll motions.... just a pain in arse when browsing around.

• It's a good start

  Now they need to make a tablet that my phone plugs into via a slot of some sort. It can stick out a little if the have to allow for the camera hump. I'n waitinf for the next generation of phones and tablets. Both with CPU etc. so they can run independently, or when inserted into the "oversized" SD slot they will automatically sync mail, calendar, contacts, etc. etc. I sent Steve J an email asking him to build me one. I think he said this is planned for the IPAD3 and IPhone 5 :-)

• This dock is not revolutionary

  Ever hear of the Palm Foleo from May 2007? It was killed just before release yet essentially created a similar working environment only they had a better idea for connecting their PDA - Bluetooth. I'm sure there were issues with the unit like the Atrix dock is experiencing and adding a BT adapter increases greater battery drain on both devices but otherwise the similarities between products is uncanny. And the Foleo went the extra step of being compatible with Windows Mobile and had development possibilities for RIM/iOS/Symbian connectivity. A company that can bring out this kind of companion device may see enterprises/road warriors clamouring if it works well with VDI technologies (are you listening HP?) Otherwise for the casual user like myself it would be extravagant.

  Bluetooth, as I've been discovering lately, has serious problems when connecting multiple devices. I run a Plantronics 855 headset on my HTC s740 and when I do that the Bluetooth PAN is unavailable to both my Ipaq 110 and HP Pavilion laptop. Bluetooth has serious problem that are exacerbated by weak implementation by the manufacturers. It's not ready for Prime Time and may not ever be.
