Scott McNealy jokes during a commemorative speech at the opening of CEES, which was conceived of 18 months ago by Sun and Stanford researchers, that "if I may have an Al Gore-ish moment, we invented community development" referring to the open-source developer community that now thrives around Linux. "We believe the network is the computer in an open and sharing way."
