Enjoy content from your HTC One Series on the big screen with the Media Link HD
HTC released the HTC Media Link HD device to help you share your content from your phone with family and friends. It is a great way to enjoy movies, music, photos, and your device display to the big screen.
Make sure to check out my full ZDNet Smartphones & Cell Phones blog post for experiences using the Media Link HD.
You get everything you need in the retail package, including an HDMI cable, USB cable and charger, Media Link HD mount, and User Guide.
The microUSB port is used for powering up the Media Link HD while the HDMI port is the connection to your TV or display.
The top button is used to configure your Media Link HD and make the connection with your supported HTC One device.
After you launch the utility on your phone, you will see steps for the connection wizard.
The back of the unit has a small dimple with a black matte finish.
The front and sides are glossy black with the HTC logo on the front.
Here you can see the size comparison between the Media Link HD and the HTC One X on AT&T.
The Media Link HD is now plugged into the two cables with the HTC One X behind it.
When you setup the Media Link HD you will see all the connection details on your TV or display.
An animation appears that shows you how to perform the three finger slide gesture on your HTC One.
The configuration wizard appears on the display and on your phone.
Setup is now complete and we are ready to roll.
Here you can see I have mirror mode up with the home screen in landscape on my HTC One X and TV.
You can use different apps with mirror mode, including the Chrome web browser.
It is great to share photos from your HTC One X on the TV. As you can see I am giving a lift here in this rugby game (I am #1).
One of the main reasons to use the Media Link HD is to watch movies and trailers.
If you have a Media Link HD on your network and open up content than can be shared, then you can be prompted to share this content to the TV with this pop-up.
You can also listen to music on your TV or display via the Media Link HD.
While the controls appear on the HTC One, the Media Link HD just outputs the video content to the TV.
When you are connected, a small TV icon appears in the notifications area.
When you are viewing some content in supported apps, such as HTC Watch, you can do other things on your device while the content plays on the TV.
Here you can see I am playing Angry Birds Space on the One X with family viewing on the big screen.
