"RailCorp will be having discussions with Westpac about the services it provides under the current contract," the public transport agency told ZDNet Australia.

Preliminary investigations into the outage have revealed that an air conditioning fault in Westpac's datacentre saw the bank's ATM, EFTPOS and online platforms taken offline on Thursday.

Westpac told ZDNet Australia on Friday that the services didn't fail over to its disaster recovery site due to time constraints.

"We did take the decision to focus on restoring services from the impacted datacentre rather than switch to our backup systems, as it would have taken more time to do so," Paul Marriage, head of media relations for Westpac, told ZDNet Australia on Friday.

CityRail EFTPOS services were restored at approximately 11:30am on Thursday following the morning peak.

Westpac executives have sincerely apologised to its customers and promised a full review into the incident.
