Samsung Electronics Australia has announced two new additions to its Galaxy smartphone portfolio, the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge.

The two phones will be the first two smartphones released in the Australian market that will be compatible to take advantage of carrier aggregation in the 700MHz and 1800MHz bands, which are currently being rolled out by Telstra and Optus. The aim of carrier aggregation is to combine the 4G spectrum holdings in the two bands to offer even faster speeds on the 4G network.

Earlier in the year, there were speculations that the Apple's iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus were going to be compatible for the combined 4G specturm holdings, but since the release of both phones two weeks ago it appears neither will be able to run on the faster 4G network in Australia, and will only be able to run on the 4G 700MHz spectrum band. However, customers of Sprint and AT&T who are owners of either iPhone 6s have access to the combined network bands in the US.

Despite this missing feature, Apple fans have continued to flock to stores to get their hands on an iPhone 6, with the company reporting that it had sold 10 million iPhones in the first weekend of sales.

The Note 4 features a 5.7-inch quad HD super AMOLED display, a 16 megapixel rear-facing camera, a 3.7 megapixel front-facing camera, and an improved fingerprint scanner and S Pen.

With replicated features of the Note 4, the Note Edge also has a curved screen edge to provide users quick access to frequently used apps, alerts, and functionality. The Note Edge will only be released in a selected number of countries, with Australia being the first market.

The Galaxy Note 4 will be available for pre-order from October 15 and for general release from October 29 for RRP of AU$949. The Note Edge will be available from November 5 with a RRP of AU$1,249.
