Telstra wholesales backup option
Dubbed PC Data Protection (PCDP), it is aimed at Internet service providers, systems integrators and managed services providers, which can resell the solution to their customers.
PCDP will see a software agent installed on end users' machines. The agent is powered by backup services company Connected and will run a daily backup of requested files to Telstra's datacentres in Sydney and Melbourne.
The service will be billed on a 'pay-as-you-go' monthly subscription model, with an additional one-off establishment fee. The minimum term is 12 months and pricing is determined on a case-by-case basis.
Local managed service provider TechOnline partnered with Telstra in trialling PCDP. The company bills itself as "the first MSP in Australia focused exclusively on delivering automated, remote computer management services to small business".
Telstra is pushing the service as an alternative to other models such as CDs, floppy disks, USB storage devices and tape drives. Such devices are typically used by small to medium enterprises to store data as automated off-site backup has traditionally been affordable only to large organisations.
The service will join existing Telstra wholesale security options including anti-spam and anti-virus.
