The global broadband and telecommunications company has improved its "Enterprise Mobility as a Service" offering with an upgraded support network for mobile devices.

Verizon's network now includes new access options, support for a variety of applications and can be used on smartphones, tablets and laptops.

The rollout will include "Secure Workspace", implementing Divide by Enterproid to separate and secure corporate data on business and personal mobile devices through a firewall. In addition, the software's mobile device management as been extended to smartphones and tablets, so they can be wiped, locked and controlled remotely by an administrator. Previously, this was only available on laptops and desktop computers.

An expanded Wi-Fi feature will also allow enterprise customers to connect to over half a million hotspots across the globe. Customers can configure and deploy Wi-Fi directories across devices to make corporate mobile data networks more efficient and make transfers of sensitive corporate data more secure.

The New York-based firm says that the upgrade has been made to keep up with the radical changes taking place in the business environment. Mobility is now expected not only by business connections but by the consumer -- and to keep corporate information secure within mobile networks, more advanced cloud options are necessary.

This is one of the challenges that modern businesses currently face -- the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) trend may save individual firms in the short-term by offloading the investment in gadgets to employess -- but if data is breached or goes astray, then it is the company which must face the long-term repercussions.

The upgrade will roll out this month for medium to large businesses across Europe, Asia-Pacific and the Americas.
