When it comes to using technology as a catalyst, small businesses have an interesting set of advantages and disadvantages when compared to large enterprises, which often draw a lot of the attention when we talk about business technology. Small businesses don't typically have the budget or the IT talent or the flexibility that enterprise have. But, they also aren't as tied down by legacy systems and previous investments, and that gives them an ability to experiment and be numble in implementing the latest innovations.

In fact, because they have more of a blank slate to work with and they can rip-and-replace technologies without incurring massive costs, many small businesses have become leading-edge adopters and innovators in using technology to transform their business and leapfrog their competitors.

These are the main topics in this episode of "The Editors."

This show is part of our ZDNet and TechRepublic special feature on "IT Innovation in Small Businesses." We talk about the biggest opportunities SMBs can take advantage of when it comes to technology, what it means for technology professionals, and some of the latest data we've uncovered in our own survey of how SMBs are currently using technology and how they plan to use it in the future.
