VMware and Dell are "doubling down" on desktop virtualization with new infrastructure based on VMware View.

VMware has been busy highlighting its many partnerships with major tech players during VMworld 2012 in San Francisco this week, and Dell certainly can't be left out of the mix.

In fact, the two companies are teaming together to develop a virtual desktop infrastructure, with a particular focus on offering scalability.

Based on the VMware View enterprise virtual desktop platform for end users across multiple devices, the objective for the joint Dell-VMware infrastrcuture is to offer customers and channel partners with validated hardware configurations and vertically optimized reference architectures.

To put that into perspective, the infrastructure should be scalable for every type of business ranging from SMBs to the enterprise level.

Vittorio Viarengo, vice president of End-User Computing at VMware, mentioned in prepared remarks that the combination of Dell's new vStart VDI with VMware View will enable "small and midsize businesses to quickly transform their organizations and help their employees work smarter, while reducing costs and driving efficiencies in IT."

Other elements included in the infrastructure design include Dell Wyse cloud clients designed for VMware View as well as a combination of Dell vStart preconfigured and tested server, storage and networking hardware that has been optimized for prime performance and scalability with VMware View.

Dell and VMware boast that this infrastructure would provide more flexibility with choices ranging from a turnkey "view in a box" to a-la-carte components for simply building out existing VMware View configurations.
