Wasp Barcode Technologies has added three thermal barcode printers to its extensive array of options for small businesses seeking data capture and tracking solutions for inventory control, asset tracking, and point of sale (POS).

All of the new printers include standard Ethernet connectivity options, they differ dramatically as far as the specific applications they are intended to support.

Here's a rundown on some key features of each of the new Wasp offerings:

WPL612 - Starting at $1,295, the die-cast aluminum printer (pictured in the thumbnail image for this post) sports printheads that are meant to handle tough environments in the world of manufacturing, warehouses, and shipping and receiving. It can produce up to 20,000 labels in one run at a standard output of 203 dots per inch (dpi), but 300- or 600-dpi options are available. The printer comes with 32 megabytes (MB) of SDRAM,  and an 8 MB flash memory card slot. It supports labels up to 4.09 inches wide, and label rolls with an outside diameter of up to 8 inches.

WPL406 - An entry-level option that starts at $849, it features a low-profile design, all-metal exterior housing, and a print mechanism that can handle volumes of up to 10,000 labels daily. It comes with 8 MB RAM, a 4 MB flash memory slot, and has a standard resolution of 203 dpi (with a 300-dpi option). 

WPL304 - This small 4-inch format desktop printer priced starting at $429 comes with Ethernet, USB, serial and parallel connection options. It comes with 8 MB RAM and a 4 MB flash memory slot, and can print at speeds of up to four inches per second.
