Apple has bought chip design company Zayante for an undisclosed sum. Zayante is a Californian company which had helped Apple to build its FireWire software and chips. FireWire is Apple's high-speed connectivity technology. The FireWire standard, officially called IEEE 1394, was originally set up by designers working at Zayante in 1996. Zayante was previously called Firefly.
