BT has launched an app for the iPhone and iPad, as well as Android-based phones and tablets, that lets users of those devices schedule and manage videoconferences.

The BT Engage Meeting Mobile app, unveiled on Tuesday, is compatible with products from Cisco, LifeSize, Polycom and Tandberg. It lets the meeting host control the videoconferencing equipment, launch and end meetings and extend meeting times, all using their mobile device.

"More and more organisations are using video conferencing to save money, increase productivity and reduce time spent on travel," BT Conferencing chief Jeff Prestel said in a statement. "This mobile app is the first of its kind and provides our customers with scheduling and call control options, even when they are away from their desk."

The mobile app — of which a Windows Phone 7 version came out earlier this month — is free, but is designed to work with BT Engage Meeting Manager, BT's paid-for web-based conferencing tool.

BT has had a similar app for audioconferencing, BT MeetMe Mobile Controller, since September last year.
