I'm getting reports from insiders in the motherboard industry that Intel has delayed the launch of the Core i5 "Lynnfield" processors, pushing the launch back from July to September.

To be honest, I'm not surprised to hear that Intel is postponing the launch given that there's still life in the Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad lines. Also, there's little in the way of competition from AMD.

I'm also willing to wager that Intel is delaying the launch in order to be able to ride the Windows 7 hype wave that Microsoft will be generating. In fact, it makes a lot of sense for Intel to release Core i5 at around the same time that Microsoft releases its new OS.

So, if you've been saving your pennies for a Core i5 system, you have a little more time to save!
