Salesforce.com is acquiring Coolan, a startup that provides analytics tools to monitor data center performance.

"Once the transaction has closed, the Coolan team will help Salesforce optimize its infrastructure as it scales to support customer growth around the world," Coolan co-founder Amir Michael wrote on the company blog.

The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Before starting Coolan, Michael worked at Facebook, where he designed customer hardware and data center powere schemes, leading to the development of Open Compute. He still serves as a leader of the Open Compute Project and wrote Tuesday, "I will continue my work with the Open Compute Project (OCP) to further its mission of making hardware open, efficient and scalable."

Coolan's investors include Social Capital and North Bridge Venture Partners.

Salesforce's core CRM product runs on its own data centers. The company has said it will continue to invest and support its own, even as it deploys a diversified cloud infrastructure plan.
