I was just perusing through Simon Phipps (Sun's Chief Open Source Officer) blog, by way of Bob Sutor's (IBM open source/standards grand pooh-bah) blog which alerted me to Danese Cooper's (Intel, formerly of Sun) blog which empties Sun's dirty laundry basket on the open sourcing of Java (Bridges? What bridges? Burned) which no doubt enraged Phipps who resisted flaming with this polite response; all of which had to have put Sutor in a good mood for his family reunion where there are sure to be some bare naked ladies (on the playlist, in addition to the Rolling Stones). This of course has me wondering when the Prodigal Java son Richard Green will start blogging (how can he not) and what, if any, the catching name for his blog will be. The recently promoted Papa Greg's blog (dormant since the end of March) is called Greg Matter. For Mr. Rich, the Green Machine couldn't be much more fitting given that his job will be to generate some lettuce for Sun. Gartner says Sun had better cultivate some, or else. Or else what? Or else Gartner will lose a big client. Perhaps it already did given the way Plummer and McGuckin (the Ebert and Roeper of Tech) appeared to give Sun CEO Jonathan Schwartz the thumbs down.
What does any of this have to do with foxes and hens? Given Sun's position on proprietary DRM and the way Schwartz wants the Liberty-like Open Media Commons to break loose the grip of CRAPpy monopolies like Apple, I was shocked -- SHOCKED I tell you --- to see Sun giving away -- YES, GIVING AWAY -- iPods at JavaOne (brings us full circle to Simon Phipps, where this twisted tale started).
