What are your plans for the Windows 8 beta? (poll)
Summary: Over the past few months, Windows 8 has been publicly demoed and discussed in detail more than any other software program I can remember. Has all that information made you more eager to try Windows 8? Or are you starting to feel post-PC ennui? Vote in my poll, and help me focus my coverage.
The last time Microsoft released a Windows beta was in January 2009. That early release of Windows 7 attracted three million users, and it got generally favorable reviews, including word-of-mouth feedback.
Windows 8 has already been shown off thoroughly in well-rehearsed public demos. The very-much-unfinished Windows 8 Developer Preview, released last September, has been downloaded more than three million times. It's been sliced and diced and dissected, inside and outside Redmond. On the Building Windows 8 blog Microsoft has delivered a veritable firehose of information about what's coming next.
Has all that information made you more eager to try Windows 8? Or are you starting to feel post-PC ennui?
This isn't the place for a scientific poll, of course, but I am interested in gauging the response of my regular readers to this impending release. Help me out by recording your vote in this poll. If none of the answers is quite right, choose the one that's closest.

I'll be doing what I always do when this beta comes out, which is to install it on a wide variety of hardware, beat the crap out of it, and document my findings.

You do know that they are going to allow a 'registry key' to disable Metro totally, right?

Takes me back the .ini days of Win95...
I'll give it a pass thanks.

yeah because replacing start menu, even though there is still desktop, pinned taskbar apps, desktop icons and all Windows 7 has... is losing productivity /s
seriously, how new start screen changes that?... im using it as my main OS and it Works perfectly fine. silly excuses... but haters gonna hate, or ignorant people who hasn't even tried it.
@Lerianis10
Alot of people who has Access to recent Windows 8 builds, say there is no more hack. so dont expect to have a hack. Developer preview as another story, now there will be a Windows Store so obviously fully removing start menu, would make people try to use metro style apps.

I've only managed to load up the Developer Preview on a virtual machine as every time I try to load it up on a spare SSD partition on my desktop it craps out at 82% so I've never managed to see what it could be like with a decent graphics driver etc. I just hope that the Beta loads up OK!

Strange.... I've read postings by people who put the thing on an SSD drive and had no problems. Sounds like perhaps there is a problem with your SSD drive or it uses 'strange' drivers.

My plans are to run the beta on my main notebook computer and beat the Hell out of it at school. I'm really itching to give it a real world go, and see how the new UI will stand up to running on non-touch hardware.
"Does anyone know if Metro will run on a 1024x600 screen?"
Yes it will.
Have it running right now on an old Dell Inspiron 600m laptop, and it runs just fine. Less that 15 seconds from power on to login screen!

Are you running the DP? I coulda swore Microsoft had restricted the DP to a 1366 or greater screen resolution, but I'm kinda hoping I can run the Metro UI on my netbook.

1024x600

I can't speak to the beta, but Microsoft has said that Metro Apps require 1024x768 and to run two apps at the same time (split screen) needs 1366x768.
The Metro app launcher will will in 1024x600, but you will only be able to launch traditional Windows 7 apps.
Some netbooks include a faked 1024x768 'squished' mode - it works fine in that mode.
1366x768 required for multiple panes
If you run Windows 8 on a display where the horizontal res is less than 1366 or the vertical res is less than 768, you will not have the ability to snap an app to the side of the screen. You'll be limited to one app at a time.
I mentioned this feature in my first look at Windows 8:
