Qualcomm plots Snapdragon update, speed boost

Qualcomm will update its Snapdragon processor next year in a bid to garner more smartphone and tablet design wins.

Speaking at Qualcomm’s analyst day, Steve Mollenkopf, group president of Qualcomm’s CDMA technologies group, outlined the Snapdragon roadmap.

In a nutshell, the new Snapdragon MSM8960 chipset will feature the following:

  • A dual-core chip with 5x the performance of the first Snapdragon chip with 75 percent less power.
  • Support for LTE and 3G networks.
  • Built-in Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth and FM.
  • Sampling of the latest Snapdragon will come in 2011.
