All Things Digital's Peter Kafka reports on his Media Memo blog that "multiple music industry sources" are saying that Apple execs have told them about an event the week after Labor Day. As Kafka notes, that comes as no big surprise. It's not the first time Apple has summoned the tech press for a post-summer, pre-holiday announcement.

During last year's September event, company CEO Steve Jobs introduced an update to the iPod Touch lineup, as well as the Genius feature in iTunes. During the September event the year before that, the company unveiled the iPod Touch, which has become a key part of its product portfolio.

Apple hasn't yet confirmed the event and likely won't until it issues invitations a week or so before the event.

The fact that music industry sources are sharing information about the event with All Things Digital hints that this will be another music-related event (duh!). What remains unclear is whether the company uses the event to make multiple announcements - after all, everyone seems to be jonesing to learn more about the Apple Tablet that's been rumored.

Reports say that Jobs and company have been pushing to roll out that product sooner rather than later, though everything seems to be pointing to the fourth quarter of this year or the first quarter of next year. If the timing for the release of the product is still up in the air, I wouldn't expect Apple to offer details at a media event about something they're not yet ready to deliver.
