Rumor: Apple to start assembling iPhone 5 in August

It has been widely reported that Apple is waiting to unveil the iPhone 5 (if that is what it will be called) this fall. Now rumors about when production will actually start are underway.

According to AppleInsider based on a report by Morgan Stanley analyst Katy Huberty after a trip to Taiwan, Apple will commence production on the next version of the iPhone this August so that the device can be released ahead of the end of the third quarter.

So that puts the launch timeline squarely on September, which is what everyone has been assuming all along anyway since we didn't see a peep about it at WWDC 2011 earlier this month.

Huberty also reinforced the reports that we could see two iPhones released simultaneously (should Apple try to go for the low-end of the smartphone market) as well as a new Apple TV given how popular the second generation of the set-top box has turned out to be. The idea about two iPhones at once still seems too out-of-the-ordinary for Apple, but a new Apple TV (as well as some new iPods) would be in line with Apple's usual September announcements.

  • I can't wait for new AppleTV

    I have a Mac Mini, AppleTV, and ATV2 all hooked up to my TV right now but I still have spare inputs. I have been waiting for Apple to release something, anything, so I could buy it. I'm going to invite all the Apple fans who think just like me (DeRSSS, athynz, Richard Flude, etc) and we can play the "who has more Apple stuff" game!

      @woulddie4apple Which only serves to point out the absurdity of the myth. I am an Apple fan and I do own a 27" Apple iMac and and iPhone 4. While NOT a MS fan I have owned an XBox and currently an XBox 360. I think what one will find today is the average Apple Fan owns perhaps a PC of some sort. Maybe a device running a version of Linux and an Apple device but not necessarily a Macintosh but perhaps an iPod, or iPad, maybe an iPhone sometimes sitting right next to his/her Dell or HP desktop computer system. An Apple fan does not have to own a Macintosh nor own exclusively Apple.

        Jim and I have very different writing styles. I'm not a good enough writer to fake that. Also, his grammar and spelling occasionally drives me batty.

        Further, unlike you I use my real name. Some time ago Dietrich (our Linux advocate) once responded to me by my first name, which I've never used here. I'm not hiding.

        Jim has given out plenty of information about himself over time, as well.

        You, on the other hand, hide under multiple screen names, and add nothing to the conversation. By any name, a troll is a troll.

      @woulddie4apple Then I guess I'll lose the whole "Who has more Apple Stuff" game because I own 1 Apple product and that is my iPhone 4. I'm writing this on my HP Pavilion 6100 laptop running Windows 7 (IMHO the best desktop OS out there).

      So no I do not think like a frothing at the mouth Apple Cultist nor do I think like a frothing at the mouth Micro$oft Shill (or even a frothing at the mouth Linux Head - see the pattern here?)... I use what works for me be it a smartphone running iOS a Dell desktop dual booting Unity Ubuntu Linux and Windows 7, an HP laptop running Windows 7, a work smartphone running BB OS 5, or a Nook Color rooted to run Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

      Interesting parody on the Apple fanboi BTW... but it's entirely too over the top... in fact it's almost like a train wreck... horrible to look at yet one cannot stop looking at it.

I believe he/she is trying to use reverse psychology (rather ineffectively) to make all Apple users look like fools. Sad part is there are some that fall for his/her posts.

        @Rick: Huh... guess that crushes athynz's argument that my posts are entirely too over the top and your argument that my posts are ineffective! In fact, I've noticed that since I've started posting here, DeRSSS has toned down his rhetoric just a bit. He saw in my posts how ridiculous he was sounding! 1 down, thousands just like you to go although I have a feeling that you will never realize how ridiculous you sound.
