Voice Terminal Service brings the internet to the visually impaired through phones

Summary: I am blessed to have good eyesight and finger dexterity so interacting with the small screens and keyboards that are a part of my daily mobile life is rather easy for me. However, there are people who are visually impaired, have limited internet access, or need a complete hands-free solution that want to access this same content that I enjoy on my devices. A couple of months ago, Audiopoint released their Voice Terminal Service (VTS) that provides instant access to user-defined internet content over ordinary landlines or mobile phones without data plans and by using advanced text-to-speech technology.

Voice Terminal Service brings the internet to the visually impairedI am blessed to have good eyesight and finger dexterity so interacting with the small screens and keyboards that are a part of my daily mobile life is rather easy for me.

Through the use of Audiopoint's VTS you can listen to and respond to email, surf the web over a natural language interface, and access real-time web content. As stated in their press release (PDF document), VTS breaks the silence on the internet so that blind people can now enjoy what others enjoy about the internet. If you spend a lot of time in your car and need to access the internet while keeping both hands on the wheel, then VTS could work well for you too.

The Audiopoint service includes integration with their Notifier broadcast system so you can get important emails and events pushed directly to you.

Voice Terminal Service doesn't require you to download any software and is a subscription service available for US$4.95/month for 125 minutes, US$9.95 for 250 minutes, and US$19.99 for 1000 minutes. You can also buy an annual plan for US$229 for 1000 minutes/month or US$499 for unlimited call minutes. And to honor those visually-impaired U.S. veterans who have recently service in Iraq or Afghanistan they are providing VTS service for free.
