Verizon 4G MiFi here soon?

Summary: The appearance of MiFi units from Samsung and Novatel have appeared on an internal Verizon rebate list, indicating they may be on store shelves soon.

The Verizon 4G (LTE) network blew my socks off when I tested it at launch here in Houston. While the HTC Thunderbolt 4G is currently available from Big Red to tap the fast network, I have been anxiously awaiting for a 4G MiFi to tap into that speed. The appearance of MiFi units from Samsung and Novatel have appeared on an internal Verizon rebate list, indicating they may be on store shelves soon.

The MiFi unit is my preferred method of tapping into mobile networks. Slightly bigger than a credit card, the MiFi can be used to get multiple devices onto the network anywhere there is coverage, using the devices' WiFi connection. The Samsung 4G MiFi I saw last month in action was super-fast and an ideal way to tap into the LTE network with any WiFi-enabled laptop or tablet.

I dropped Verizon last year and headed to the Sprint 4G (WiMAX) network, which I have not regretted. But speed is king, and the LTE network just might be enough to get me back with Big Red, at least for data. All that is missing is the MiFi, which I captured on video last month.

i would sign up with Big Red once they release a prepaid 4G MiFi like they did it with 3G until then I see no reason to go there especially with the plans like take our data plan with Xoom or hit the road attitude.

  • MiFi is a registered trademark of Novatel Wireless, Inc.

    Has Samsung licensed it?

or has it already been kleenexed?

@ozindfw I'm not sure but Verizon has been calling this the MiFi.

  • Sprint vs Verizon

Isn't the Sprint data plan unlimited, though? I can't see signing on for throttled or capped data plans with any device anymore.

I was going to cancel my 3G MiFi later this year when my contract expires and just tether my iPad to my iPhone, but a 4G MiFi would really make my iPad fly!

I have the 4G Novatel MiFi 4510L, and it is HORRIBLE! Called Verizon tech support and they pulled the CYA '1.3mbps is within tolerance' BS. AVOID!!
