Splunk on Tuesday made its Enterprise 6 machine data analytics software generally available. Splunk Enterprise 6 features a revamped user interface and enhanced tools for developers to better model data.

The company rolled out Enterprise 6 at its user conference in Las Vegas. Splunk said that Enterprise 6 is 1,000 times faster than previous versions and the most significant upgrade since Enterprise 4.

Splunk takes machine data and surfaces it for executives to make sense of live information. With Enterprise 6, Splunk has focused on the interface as well as the analytics tools. Splunk's machine data software is primarily used by information technology departments to monitor infrastructure, but the company has been expanding into new markets.

Sanjay Mehta, vice president of product marketing, said machine data is the fastest growing segment of big data applications and Enterprise 6 aimed to surface information without a search or query language. "Business uses don't want to delve into query language," said Mehta.

If Splunk's master plan works, it will be able to democratize machine data for C-level executives.

Enterprise 6, developed with 250 beta customers, includes the following:

  • Analytics for non-technical business users and a drag and drop interface;
  • Data modeling templates;
  • An acceleration technology to boost speed;
  • Dashboard editing;
  • And improved management tools for administrators.
