Dell updates Torvalds' preferred XPS 13 laptop: New Intel chips, rose-gold finish
As well as a gold finish option, the XPS 13 comes with either a QHD touch display with a Core i7 or the FHD display with Core i5.
Dell has refreshed its popular XPS 13 laptop with Intel's seventh-generation Core processors. The update brings a longer battery life, among other improvements, and a new rose-gold option for those who want a change from the usual silver.
The move brings Dell's XPS 13 in line with other hardware carrying Intel's new chips, such as the recently-released Lenovo Yoga 910.

Shipping with Windows 10, the XPS 13 will be available with either a QHD+ touch display with the latest Core i7 processor or the FHD display with a new Core i5 processor.
Dell says the QHD+ model's battery will last up to 13 hours, while the FHD model will last up to 22 hours, thanks to a larger 60Wh battery. They also feature Dell's super-thin bezels, which it calls the InfinityEdge Display.
Dell is touting two configurations, the FHD model with 8GB RAM, 256GB solid-state storage, and Intel's seventh generation i5 Core processors, as well as the QHD+ model with the same RAM and storage configurations but with Intel's latest Core i7 processor.
Dell is also releasing an updated Developer Edition of the XPS 13 that ships with Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. Its predecessor, the 2016 Dell XPS 13 Developer Edition, is Linux creator Linus Torvalds' preferred laptop for programming and rated by ZDNet's open-source expert Steven J Vaughan-Nichols as the best laptop for serious programmers.
ZDNet has contacted Dell's Europe office for more details and pricing. However, according to The Verge, the updated XPS 13 will also be available with Core i3, Core i5, and Core i7 options, as well as 4G, 8GB, and 16GB memory options. Buyers will also be able choose 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB SSD.
According to Dell, the XPS 13 and XPS 13 Developer Edition will be available from October 4, starting at $799 and $949 respectively.
However, buyers who want gold will pay gold prices. Those starting prices only apply to the standard silver option, while the new rose-gold models start at $1,149.
