As Black Friday shopping creeps more and more into Thanksgiving itself, it's natural that retailers will continue to push deals earlier into the week. Witness Walmart, which is hyping its pre-Black Friday sales from today through Wednesday. While there aren't nearly as many specials as on Black Friday itself, there are a handful of deals on desktops and laptops.
HP is the PC brand of choice for the pre-Black Friday sale. The one desktop deal is the 23-inch Pavilion TouchSmart 9100 A2W13UT all-in-one for $618. This clearly looks like an inventory blow-out as the specs scream 2011 (if not 2010): Intel Core 2 Duo P7570 processor, 4GB of RAM, 500GB hard drive, and Windows 7 Professional. Of course, if you have no interest in Windows 8, you might not mind grabbing a Windows 7 legacy system. (As my colleague Steven J. Vaughan-Nichols.)
Windows 8 is included in a pair of HP laptops that are part of the pre-Black Friday event. The 2000-2b49WM is just $299, which gets you a 15.6-inch LED-backlit display, AMD E-300 processor, 320GB hard drive, and DVD burner, but only 2GB of RAM. If you really like purple, Walmart is also offering the Pavilion g6-2279wm in bright purple for $438. Unlike the HP 2000 deal, it comes with 4GB of RAM, along with AMD dual-core A4-4300M processor, 500GB hard drive, DVD burner, and a 15.6-inch screen.
Bargain hunters get one other option in the form of the "Hot Holiday Ultimate Laptop Bundle." Starting at $288, you can get a refurbished Compaq Presario CQ57 Windows 7 notebook with Targus 16" Crave 2 Sleeve with Handles, HP Desktop 1000 printer, and 4GB Wintec FileMate SWIVEL USB flash drive. For $50 more you can switch to a refurbished HP 2000-369WM Windows 7 notebook or a Compaq CQ58 Windows 8 laptop in cobalt blue; you can then upgrade the various other parts of the bundle (choice of carrying case, printer, etc.) for an additional cost.
Stay tuned as there will no doubt be more of these pre-Black Friday events occurring in the next couple of days.
