'ZDNET Recommends': What exactly does it mean?

ZDNET's recommendations are based on many hours of testing, research, and comparison shopping. We gather data from the best available sources, including vendor and retailer listings as well as other relevant and independent reviews sites. And we pore over customer reviews to find out what matters to real people who already own and use the products and services we’re assessing.

When you click through from our site to a retailer and buy a product or service, we may earn affiliate commissions. This helps support our work, but does not affect what we cover or how, and it does not affect the price you pay. Neither ZDNET nor the author are compensated for these independent reviews. If you're on the hunt for headphones, look no further. Here are 21 of the best on the market, even if you're on a budget.

A good pair of headphones can be transformative. I can't even walk down the street let alone run or exercise without my headphones blasting a soundtrack to romanticize an otherwise mundane, mindless task. Whether you want your headphones to help you capitalize on a main character moment or just block out the world as you work, investing in a good pair of headphones is worth it.

Also: The best over-ear headphones you can buy

We know headphones, especially top quality, high demand buds like AirPods can be pricey. Lucky for you we found the best deals going on right now, so you can lock in without cashing out.

Latest headphone deals

The last time this page received an update, these were the latest headphone deals worth checking out:

Best March headphone deals

Below are finds for the biggest deals on earbuds and over-the-ear headphones.

  • Current price: $130
  • Original price: $150

If you always need some sort of sound to think clearly or work effectively, Soundcore's latest headset from its Liberty line is the best go-to. With dual device connectivity, you can seamlessly switch from listening to a podcast on your phone to a Zoom meeting via laptop without going through a pair and connect process every time.

Speaking of chatting with headphones in, out of all the headphones I own, these have the best microphone quality over Zoom and on regular phone calls.

As if they're not already some of the most convenient earbuds, they're also super comfortable, and even though they have more of a "hang on the ear" than in-canal fit, they stay in your ears without a lot of pressure. If you're looking for a discounted, but just as good version of AirPods, I can't recommend this pair from Soundcore enough.

  • Current price: $150
  • Original price: $200

These aren't the trending AirPods Max, but they still have a sleek, over-ear futuristic look without being too clunky. Plus, they have a 30-hour battery life and are comfortable enough to wear all day -- from desk to gym. Upon purchase you'll also get a carrying case that makes them easy to transport or throw into a bag. Perfect for a busy lifestyle and trendy, I'd want to take advantage of this deal, too.

  • Current price: $129
  • Original price: $179

As someone who is picky about which earbuds they use to exercise with, these Bose buds are worth the money and the hype. With an in-canal fit and soft silicone tip, the buds don't fall out of your ear no matter how much you sweat. Plus, they won't give you uncomfortable pressure build-up midway through your workout.

Of course, Bose doesn't disappoint with their renowned sound quality. The audio is clear even when you're running against strong winds. Bottom line: if you're in the market for some quality workout earbuds, I recommend grabbing these while they're on sale.

  • Current price: $234
  • Original price: 350

The Beats Studio 3 wireless over-hear headphones are some of the most reliable cans on the market. Easy to pair via bluetooth with iOS and, yes, even Android devices, you can listen to a podcast, audio book, or music on the go, at the gym, or as you listen during work. Plus, their integration of Apple's W1 chip means you get 22 hours of battery life with ANC (active noise cancellation) switched on, and 44 hours in transparency mode. With a durable build, solid features, and free Apple music for up to 4 months, snagging these at a $116 discount seems like a no-brainer.

  • Current price: $67
  • Original price: $99

These SkullCandy earbuds are tiny but mighty. With a small and comfortable in-ear fit, they still pack in a heavy bass with excellent active noise-cancelling technology. If you have small ears but are a big fan of audio, check these out while they're on sale.

  • Current price: $148
  • Original price: $200

These earbuds are at the top of my list to try. Not only do they have a pebbled, ergonomic, lightweight fit but they're also smart earbuds. With settings that adjust to your environment for the most optimal listening experience, they bring "hands-free" to a whole new level.

Especially during cold days when I don't want to take my hands out of my pockets or gloves, I'd really appreciate my earbuds knowing what listening mode is best for me. I think it'd be a smart investment to snag these while they're $52 off.

More Amazon headphone deals

Looking for some more headphones deals for you or another podcast junkie? Here are some sales we found happening over at Amazon.

Walmart headphone deals

Walmart has some pretty nice wireless headphone deals, including some of Beats and Samsung's most popular models.

Best Buy headphone deals

Best Buy always has some of the hottest Top Deals. Here are some of the most current.

How did we choose these headphone deals?

We went looking for these deals as if we were shopping for ourselves. By using discount codes and extensions and looking through retailers' websites, these were the best February headphone deals we could find for products I think the whole ZDNET team would enjoy.

Who has the best headphone deals right now?

A lot of retailers start fresh in January and February with new prices and discounts, but I'd pay extra attention to Target, Best Buy, Amazon, and Walmart as you shop this season.

What are the best value headphones?

Even on sale, headphones can be pricey. Here are my top picks for headphone brands that give you the best bang for your buck: JBL, Sennheiser, Google Pixel, and Sony.
