SC07 Day 4: George Smoot listens for the big bang
Nobel laureate George Smoot wowed SC07 attendees on Wednesday with a view of the universe made possible by the very supercomputers that are the subject of the conference. Smoot took the audience through a virtual tour of the universe, stopping at an intersection of several "filaments" where thousands of galaxies have coalesced. There are only 100,000 or so such intersections in our universe, according to Smoot. "This would be a fairly interesting place to be."
