8.7 mln 1-inch hard drives shipped in 2004, 140 mln by 2009

An increasing number of mobile applications such as MP3 players, PDAs, digital still cameras, and digital video cameras will push 1-inch hard disk drive (HDD) shipments from 8.7 mln units in 2004 to 140.0 mln in 2009, according to The Information Network. Unit shipments of 1" HDDs will rocket from 8.7 mln units in 2004 to 23.2 mln in 2005. Shipments of 1.8" HDDs will increase from 8.8 mln in 2004 to 13.5 mln in 2005. In contrast, shipments of 3.5" HDDs for desktop applications will increase from 209.3 mln in 2004 to 240.5 mln in 2005.
