100 jobs are to go at storage vendor Adaptec as it battles to reduce operating expenses in an increasingly hostile market.

The cuts represent 4 percent of the company's worldwide workforce and are designed to "reduce Adaptec's operating expenses and focus the company on its core business strengths" according to a prepared statement.

The company, famed for its SCSI devices, will now focus on its RAID and SCSI operations as part of "a consistent strategy that focuses the company on its core I/O businesses", according to interim CEO Larry Boucher.
