Acer might have a whole new line of thinner laptops in store for us, as word has it that the company will release a series of Intel Calpella platform-based notebooks by the middle of 2010.

Digitimes is reporting that the skinny notebook will debut in the second quarter.  All of the models will measure less than an inch thick, thus the series has been dubbed "Calpella Slim." The laptops will be available in 13-, 14-, and 15-inch sizes, with the help of Wistron and Quanta.

Acer is pushing the ultra-thin model so much that they could account for up to 40% of Acer's shipments this year, estimated to be between 13 and 18 million units.

Although there is no price being tossed around this early in the game, we should be able to expect a price drop on ultra-thin Acer notebooks already on the market to make way for these new slim laptops.
