All Android apps will have content certification ratings added to them to help provide users with additional information when choosing apps over the course of the 'next few weeks', according to Android developer Eric Chu.

New and existing apps will be categorised in one of four categories: All, Pre-teen, Teen, & Mature.

Chu says that the decision to classify content was one of the most requested features from Android users.

From 29 November, new or updated apps will need a rating to be shown in the correct category on the store.

Existing apps and games will be allowed "several weeks" to update with the new information. Any content that does not include a rating will be automatically placed in the Mature category.
