Apple retail stores contacted in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania were quoting the same mid March date.
"Wrapping up Apple TV is taking a few weeks longer than we projected, and we now expect to begin shipments mid-March," commented an Apple spokesperson to Macworld News.
SiliconValley.com is reporting that FCC approval could be contributing to the delay:
One possible explanation is regulatory bureaucracy. "A pushout of two to three weeks suggests to me more of an issue with the FCC than with anything else," said analyst Dave Carey of Portelligent.
BusinessWeek (via iLounge) also states that the holdup is with the FCC adding that a component shortage could also be a factor:
"Component suppliers known to have pieces in the Apple TV include Intel, Marvell, and Seagate," reports the magazine. "But a parts shortage probably would have been known long before Jobs set such an aggressive ship date for the product."
My favorite Apple TV rumor is that Dire Straits has been hired by Apple to perform a modified version of their famous single Money For Nothing for an upcoming Apple ad.
"I want my Apple TV..." indeed.
