Archos announces two new Android-based Home Tablet devices
Archos already has some big news ahead of CeBIT this week. The computer company has introduced a pair of Home Tablet Internet-ready devices in 7- and 8-inch sizes with some budget-minded price tags.
The new Archos Internet tablets are both Android OS-based and tote some wide-angle, high-res displays. The pair are also taking some hits about low-power CPUs, but they are lower-priced tablet devices. And based on the rest of the stats (or lack thereof), it appears that Archos is going for just a basic, mainstream consumer device in general.
Let's take a closer look at both of them.
Archos 7 (pictured above)
- Color touchscreen display
- ARM9 CPU
- 2 or 8GB of memory
- Wi-Fi
- USB port
- Battery life: seven hours of video or 44 hours of audio playback
- Measurements: 0.47-inches thin, weighs 0.77 pounds
Archos 8
- Color touchscreen display
- ARM9 CPU
- 4GB of memory
- Weighs 0.88 pounds
- Can double as a picture frame
The Home Tablets will be available in Europe first in April, starting at €149 ($203). No word on a North American release date or price yet.
