I'm going to assume that by now many of you will have you will be proud owners of 3G iPhones or will have upgraded your old iPhone or iPod touch devices (iPod touches???) to the version 2.0 software. This means that you now have access to Apple's new App Store.

So, what's your favorite App Store app?

So far I've thrown a few bucks in Apple's direction and bought a few apps and I have mixed feelings.

  • Super Monkey Ball (Sega) - Fun game, but I'm now stuck on a level. Overall worth buying.
  • Moto Racer (Freeverse) - Nothing special. Played it for ten minutes, got stuck on a level, went back to it later and finished all the levels in about 30 minutes.
  • Texas Hold'em (Apple) - Cheap game, lots of fun, much better than the Vista Ultimate poker game. Needs a lot of storage space though (130MB).
  • Starmap (Frederic Descamps) - Decent planetarium app. Nice.

I think that the App Store has a lot of potential, and there are some decent apps available, but so far I'm not seeing any indication that the iPhone platform will become a serious contender against Nintendo's DS or Sony's PSP.
