Japanese boffins have made a huge leap forward in the attempt to eradicate nuisance mobile phone users with a material that can absorb ringing noises. Restaurants and theatres will potentially be able to embed the material in walls and put an end to unwanted ringing. The shields, which are wood-based work by absorbing microwave radio signals. The wood contains a material which can block electromagnetic waves. The inventors hope to make the material available in hardware shops
