Emerging Energy Research predicts 2009 will be a crucial year for the coal industry and its move toward carbon capture technology. EER estimates that $20 billion has already been earmarked for various carbon sequestration projects. It is becoming clear to the coal industry, its utility and industrial customers that some way to capture CO2 emissions will be necessary to keep the coal fires burning.
