These are heady days for the semiconductor industry, according to industry observers meeting at the European International Strategy Symposium (ISS) this week.
Experts at the two-day summit, in Marseilles, France, told reporters they see a 25 percent growth rate for semiconductors worldwide this year, mainly due to the explosion of non-PC devices such as handheld computers and smartphones. Analysts at the event, sponsored by Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI), said the industry could grow even more than 40 percent in 2001.
