Commonwealth Bank of Australia's online service NetBank will be down between midnight tonight and 8am Saturday morning as the bank implements a number of upgrades to the service.

The bank will use the downtime to introduce instantaneous credit card transaction updates, begin using Google searches for transactions and extend an online identity verification service.

Currently, when customers make a purchase using their credit card, it can take up to three days before the details of that transaction are available for them to view in NetBank. From tomorrow the bank will begin to allow customers to be able to see instantly when their credit card has been charged, and where the charge came from.

Also from tomorrow, utilising Google searches within NetBank, customers will be able to click on the transaction description on their credit card history and be taken to a Google search window displaying search results relating to the company that charged the credit card.

The bank will also use the downtime to bring its NetCode SMS verification service used for internal NetBank transactions to secure credit card transactions online at selected stores.

Commonwealth Bank had been contacted for comment but had not responded at the time of writing.
