US consumer sentiment fell to the weakest level seen in 18 months in early October, with attitudes about current economic conditions slipping to the lowest point of the year, a key benchmark showed Friday. The University of Michigan's consumer sentiment index sank to 87.5 in early October from 94.2 in September. Economists had been expecting a slight drop to about 93.9.
