Court blocks UK phone numbers disk
BT has won an injunction preventing distribution of the British telephone directory on CD-ROM.
A London court decided German software developer Topware should not be allowed to import the disk to the UK. The software allows names and addresses to be looked up by keying in a telephone number, and vice-versa. BT claimed that Topware was infringing laws covering copyright and individual privacy. Topware plans to contest the verdict.
BT is just one of many telecommunications behemoths involved in such cases, so the decision could be influential.
