27 April 2000 - Ernst & Young today announced a major step into the application-service-provider (ASP) market, allying with Corio Inc. to implement and market its hosted solutions. Together, the Big Five integrator and the ASP say they will offer a wide range of enterprise-management solutions, such as e-commerce, procurement, manufacturing, customer support, finance and human resources.

E&Y officials say the deal represents the emergence of the first "industrial-strength business-service provider." E&Y customers will have access to a suite of hosted business applications, supported by E&Y's traditional consulting, integration and outsourcing support services, the officials say.

The two companies added they are already pursuing several joint customer opportunities, with the aim of targeting both Fortune 1000 and dot-com clients.
