Flip the switch off when you leave tonight, would you?

OK, so you have a few more hours to sign up for today's Power IT Down Day, an effort organized to help make companies and individuals aware of the potential electricity savings. All you have to do is turn your computer and related peripherals off when you leave the office tonight. Easy, huh?

When I checked a few minutes ago, the initiative -- sponsored by Citrix, Hewlett-Packard, Intel and GTSI -- had signed up more than 15,800 supporters. That's almost triple the 5,600 number those companies were hoping would join in. Because the number of supporters got so large, the companies are planning to give $60,000 to the Wounded Warrior Project, rather than the $45,000 they originally promised. So far, the organizations planning to flip the switch tonight include the General Services Administration, the Department of Health and Human Services and Region 7 of the Environmental Protection Agency. (I'm kinda wondering where the rest of that agency is on this one, actually.)
